How Do They Work?
When the candle is lit at the top, there is a mild suction, the rising air inside the ear then sets up a vibration which gently massages the eardrum. This helps to regulate the pressures involved inside the ear. The effect is sometimes described as a "lighter feeling" in the head and ear. the candles I use are the Biosun candles are hollow tubes about 12” in length and they work by creating a ‘Chimney’ effect into the ear canal and around the ear, nose and throat (ENT) to help loosen hardened wax and help to alleviate any ENT problems.
The flow of air creates a circulation of concentrated vapour; this is soothing, calming and protects the irritated areas. The warmth of the flow stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic systems and increases immune defence and cleansing. It also stimulates energy and reflex points. The chimney effect inside the ear candle and the natural movement of the flame serve to gently massage the eardrum. This has an effect of regulating ear pressure.

What to Expect
A Hopi Ear Candle treatment will usually take 45 minutes. Following a detailed consultation you will be asked to lie fully clothed on the treatment couch. Each ear will be treated in turn as you lie comfortably on your side. The candle is placed gently into your ear, lit and then held in place, it takes approximate 10 minutes to burn down to the safety line where it is then extinguished in water. During the treatment you may hear a slight crackling or fizzing noise as the Hopi ear candle burns and may also feel warmth around the ear.
